From Either Side of the Fence

The UK is experiencing a national identity crisis. What does it mean to be a part of the UK? How do we define Scotland and England - as both united and separate nations?

With a tent and two panniers, I set off from my then home in north east Scotland to my childhood home in south west England exploring these questions by bike, photographing every Saltire, st George's cross and Union Jack along the way. I used the journey between these two homes to ask the public about the country they are in, handing blank stamped and addressed postcards to households displaying national flags, to local youth groups and individuals. On arrival in south west England, eighty handwritten responses greeted me.

To document these  responses, 40 publications were designed, written and carefully bound. Pick up a copy from  Deveron Projects or Good Press.
